The socialist government interior minister has appointed a socialist head of the Guardia Civil Joan Mesquida.

For the first time a socialist has been appointed head of the notorious armed police.

It is hoped however that she has been appointed because of talent rather than any nepotistic elements.

We congratulate her on her appointment and wish her every success in transforming the Guardi into a modern police force.
