Those brought up in an English school probably never noticed until moving to Spain that Juan Carlos Borbon, the King of Spain, is in fact the King of Spain's and has always been so.
At this time with Zapatero creating a multi state out of the separate entities of Catalan, Andalucia, Basque, Galicia... and others it is wondrous to contemplate what exactly Juan Carlos Borbon is thinking.
My vote is not for Rajoy or for Zapatero but it is for the King of Spain. He lived in exile, and has twice been faced with the prospect of a coup removing Spain's democratic status. Now it seems his country is to be divided. The first coup occurred in 1981 and by all reports the King acted heroically in helping to restore democracy. The second coup - if it was a coup and we will probably not know how close it came for a long long time occurred earlier this year. And now we have - according to some sources the country being split. It is good that the king has remained loyal to his country and has not become involved. Spain as a large nation was fractured already and nothing anyone can say will change that. The Basques and the Catalans do not speak the same language even after Franco decreed the should sixty years ago - they cannot be forced.
They are better to feel the spread of freedom and yet grow together.
While Zapatero and Rejoy shout at each other, the King quietly achieves more, binding the elements in silence.
Forget the republic, and The King of Spain is dead - long live The King of Spain's...
