Congress Today Votes on New Education Law

Today the new Education reforms (LOE) will become law as Congress votes despite the doubts of the ERC.

The Law which is due to change many aspects of Education and put a higher slant on and educational rather than welfare perspective is the first educational reform in Spain for many years.

It encourages a more child centered learning policy - rather than the structured environment whioch exists at the moment. During the process of consultation the bill was modified by more than 20% resulting in a much watered down law. Religion is now not abligatory and children will be taught 'Respect for nations'.

Some observers in the oppositio PP have commented that although some reform was necessary perhaps tinkering with something that worked might not be such a good thing..
