A seaman has died in the waters off the Atlantic coastline when a fishing vessel went down with ten men aboard off the coast of Ireland. Because of the worsening visibility in the region the search for the bodies of the Spanish fishermen has been called off.
The dead man's body was taken by helicopter by the British coastguards to Cork in Ireland said a spokesman from the Falmouth coastguards.
The Minister for Transport in Ireland confirmed that the fisherman was from Spain.
A further fisherman, the engineer of the Dinish is presumed dead. The ship signalled for help at 20.34 GMT on Wednesday 180 nautical miles south west of the Scilly Isles in the Atlantic.
UPDATE.
The coastguards have stopped looking for the bodies of the two fishermen now presumed dead. The engineer from Pontevedra and one other thought to be from Guinea Bissau. They have managed to rescue another sailor from Senegal. The total rescue was 6.
The ship sank when flooded by a wave which entered the hull although the conditions were not bad at the time. The ship was 32 years old
