Real Madrid earned a hard-fought victory against Bayern Munich last night at the Santiago Bernabeau. Los Galacticos will take a 3-2 first-leg lead back to Munich after goals from captain Raul (2) and Ruud Van Nistelrooy. Neither team have been in their best form in their respective domestic leagues, however, this first-leg Champions League tie proved to be action-packed.

David Beckham was instrumental in Madrid’s attacking style of play, as he begins to return to the form which he is accustomed to. Both goalkeepers, Iker Casillas and Oliver Kahn both had good games, preventing even more goals raining in. The final score sets up a classic second-leg encounter between the two teams in Munich. Elsewhere in the Champions League, Manchester United beat Lille 1-0, Arsenal fell to PSV Eindhoven 1-0 and Celtic played out a goalless draw against AC Milan.
