Senate Approves New Balearic Statute

The Senate has approves the new statue of autonomy that will govern the Balearic Islands for the future with 224 votes in favour none against and the abstentions of the senators of the ERC ICV EIiA and IU who were petitioning for Independence from Madrid.

The text recognised that the islands had there own national culture and history and had their own fisheries ports and living structure.

The new statute will allow the Balearic's to decide upon the institutions that govern them and enable them to develop there own fiscal identity.

The new statute will come into force soon probably as early as the 1st of March coinciding with the Day of the Balearic's.
