The Balearic islands have been invaded over the centuries by practically everyone except the Swiss - they seem to be attempting this somewhat belatedly now, so to speak of national identity is somewhat of a misnomer.

In fact the Balearic's contain nationalities that are not Spanish and over the last years the populations of Ibiza have swelled with young party-goers from Sweden, Germany and of course the United Kingdom.

We should wish them luck with their autonomic status and hope that the ruling minority of Spaniards make cutting corruption in the new executive a priority...
