The minister for the Interion Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba announced today that the arson attack that took place this morning to the hardware stores of a councilman in Navarra were inconsistent with a ceasefire.

In a brief statement in Cantabria  Perez Rubalcaba  expressed solidarity with the councilman of the UPN Jose Antonio Mendive and the neighbors who had been drawn into the attack.

After condemnation of the attack the Interior minister reiterated the purpose of the government was to pursue peace, but that they had to protect citizens.

The first indications are that just after four this morning arsonists broke the window and poured inflammable liquid into the shop before setting it alight creating a large inferno and considerable smoke which spread. The fire was extinguished just after five thirty.

Several Police officers and a ten mounth old child were admitted to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation, thier state is thought not to be serious.
