Seat Redundancies

The head of Seat, the Spanish automotive giant, has offered voluntary redundancies to  1600 employees.

Unemployment in manufacturing

This is the latest announcement of large firms in Spain decreasing their work force. Many jobs have been transferred to the far east.

General Electric announced last month a decrease in its Spanish workforce.

The redundancies are hoped to be all voluntary and will take place over the next three years taking the labour force from 16000 to 14400.

Seat belongs to the German group Volkswagen which also has Skoda and Audi.
