From today the Minister of the Interior has put into place restrictions for those travelling abroad to and from Spain.

"New restriction to control illegal immigration"

Discussions have been underway to decide which of the routes should be chosen for greater security.

At present Spain abides by the Schengen agreement which allows for free travel between member states of the European Union. This agreement has been operating since 1997. The new restriction have been prompted by anti terrorist measures and to control illegal immigration.

The new restrictions will apply only to large vehicles into which people can be hidden.
