The Fiscalia yesterday renounced their accusation that Arnaldo Ortegi had attempter to further the cause of terrorism. Otegi was sentenced last year and was released pending this appeal.

Judge: "this court has no evidence, you may be released"

Otegi is spokesman for the banned separatist party in Spain Batasuna which has as its main aim the creation of an independent state for the Basque Region.

President of the Government Zapatero has been attempting to give greater autonomy to the Basque region to avert the terrorist activity of ETA. Otegi said that he would work toward a democratic solution in the Basque country.

Some of the Basque region is on French territory. The French have rejected all talks with Batasuna or ETA and remained committed to maintaining their sovereignty.
