After a worrying few weeks for Zapatero his government is now basking in the success of its athletes.

Spain has a national identity going back only as far as the death of Franco. During the last year the economic problems of Spain have become more and more apparent leading to unrest over the last few months.

Almost all Spaniards have invested in property in Spain in one way or another and with already a drop of 10% and a forecast of a further drop of another 10-15% desperation had settled in.

For the moment Spain has rallied around the victorious football team and the tennis player Nadal.
